This is a grip you should practice while doing pull ups. It’s unique in the fact that, if done correctly, it automatically puts you in a stable shoulder position generating torque. To do this correctly you must wrap your full hand around the bar and lock your thumb over your index/middle finger. This may feel uncomfortable at first but hey, so does a barbell hook grip, right? – Coach Bryan
