The strength cycle this month is about finding new PRs or Heavy Singles. It’s a PR testing month for the athletes that have been consistent with their training through all the EMOTM cycles. For all others it should be about finding a heavy single for the day. There is also the option to stop at 75% and do sets across. We give the sets across option because some athletes have not been training properly to do a max attempt at a certain lift.
In order to do a max attempt you need to be well trained, well rested, properly hydrated, have your nutrition in order and have been in the gym working the lift before jumping to find a new max PR. If you are not aligned with one of these items listed it’s not a good idea to try and push for a new PR. If you have all these things in order, then go for it! The concept is if you have worked at it and prepared to test an old max we welcome the option to do so, otherwise, you have to realize that at this stage, you are not ready. Respect the max attempt and understand the immense stress it puts on the body. If the body is not ready to handle that, then it should not be done.
