It may sound silly but walking back out of the rack is a very important thing to think about, especially when the loads start to get heavy.  Today when squatting practice your own sequence that helps you get set and stay organized.  Mine goes a little something like this: 

  • Step under the bar resting the load on my traps
  • Create tension between myself and the bar
  • Mini squat to take the barbell off the rack
  • Step back once with my left foot
  • Step back once with my right foot
  • Readjust my right foot so everything is organized
  • SQUAT
