We always talk about creating torque when performing lifts. If you are still unsure what this means, think about it this way. When creating shoulder torque we use the cue “break the bar”. Basically what we are trying to accomplish is getting your shoulder into a stable strong position. Your shoulder is a ball and socket joint and has a bunch of musculature around it. When creating rotation contractions “breaking the bar” the shoulder sets into a good place and the muscles around it become active creating stability for the joint, thus allowing you to produce more power and strength.
