The rules for box jumps while simple, are key to success with the movement.

  • Don’t jump until you are ready.
  • When you are ready, jump like you mean it.
  • Stand tall and step off the box once you show control at the top.

Start with your feet under your hips about a foot length away from the box. Push your hips back, load the hamstrings and heels and push aggressively against the ground. Once off the ground, tuck your knees up in order to clear the box and land on top. Keep your eye on your landing spot and stay focused on nothing but that box. If your coach notices you are having trouble with these principles, a lower box height will be prescribed until you are able to maintain the standards.
