With the running season coming up, lots of our athletes are doing all sorts of races from 5ks and more to mud runs and adventure runs. A few of us are doing Broad Street on May 4th and one athlete put together a few tips for race day I thought were appropriate to share along with some others as well.
1. Be prepared race day. Don’t do anything different than you normally do for a training run.
2. Carpool with friends as parking and taking shuttles can be easiest. Give yourself plenty of time.
3. Pack light. These days personal bags are not allowed due to security reasons. The less you have with you, the better. Have only the necessities with you.
4. Wear layers and articles of clothing you don’t mind taking off and leaving behind (they pick them up and give to charities).
5. Do your research. Find out the race policy for ipods, strollers, water stations, post race amenities etc.. The more you know, the better you can prepare. Make sure to find out details on race packet pickup.
6. At water stations, run past the beginning part. The end section is always the least crowded.
7. Have a plan for meeting up with friends/family post race. Find a slightly obscure location to plan to meet so you can easily find each other.
8. Train hard and have fun! Races can be lots of fun. Get a few friends together and enjoy the experience!
